Sarah Rhea– PI

Origin: Indiana

Education: Sarah earned her DVM from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. She practiced veterinary medicine in small animals before obtaining her MPH and PhD from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following her graduate training, Dr. Rhea served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She subsequently completed CDC’s Preventive Medicine Residency/Fellowship program.

Interests: Antimicrobial Resistance, Disease Surveillance, Healthcare-associated infections, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Emerging Zoonotic Pathogens, One Health

Fun Fact: Sarah attended a conference call with the President of the United States on her 37th birthday while deployed to a disease outbreak investigation.


Rebecca Bloch– Post Doc

Origin: outside of Albany, NY

Education/Experience: Rebecca earned her DVM from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She practiced veterinary medicine in small animal and zoo/exotic/wildlife settings before obtaining her MPH from UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Interests: One Health, Antimicrobial resistance

Fun fact: Rebecca once ate ceviche in the Dominican Republic with a U.S. ambassador named Chris Columbus.


Grace Faulkner– Research Associate

Origin: New Jersey

Education: Grace earned her BS Biology from University of Richmond and MPH from Ohio State University with specialization in Veterinary Public Health and certificate in One Health.

Interests: One Health, Zoonotic Disease, Disease Surveillance, GIS

Fun Fact: Grace worked at the Kentucky Reptile Zoo one summer and held a King Cobra named Puppy during venom extraction.
